Exams Java SE 11 Programmer I (1Z0–815) and Java SE 11 Programmer II (1Z0–816) are now retired. You are required to give only one paper i.e. 1ZO-819. This is good for you because you only need to take one exam to get Java certification. Java 11 is designated as the LTS or Long Term Support version of Java — it’s going to be supported by Oracle and JDK vendors until at least 2026. Even the latest Java version i.e. Java 16 support will cease in September 2021, though it was released in March 2021 only.

Java SE 11 Certification is indeed one of the most difficult certifications to crack. To crack Java SE 11 Developer certification, you need to prepare well, but, at the same time, you also need to know which areas you should focus on. You should have a complete idea of the books, courses, and mocks which can help you to learn the essential topics.

For helping out all the eligible aspirants, I am trying to give them guidance with my personal experience of clearing the exam on the first attempt.

My personal feedback is: Module is a crucial topic, and since I have never really used modules, it was quite difficult for me to answer the questions from that topic !!!

But, don’t worry I got you covered. If you follow this exam guide, then you will surely pass the examination. This is my tried and tested blueprint.

In terms of time, you will need at least one month if your goal is not just to pass the exam but to score high but for that, you also need to have full-time Java work experience.

If you are starting as a fresh graduate, you might take a little longer, it will completely depend on your willpower and your ability to learn and understand topics easily, and how you use that knowledge practically. Overall, it’s just about understanding and implementing the concept not just learning them. It’s essential to understand each concept in-depth than just knowing the right answer.

Let’s have a quick glance at the paper pattern and syllabus.

The duration of the exam is 90 Minutes and the Number of Questions asked is 50. The Passing Score is 68%.

The syllabus includes the following topics —

  • Java Fundamentals
  • Annotations
  • Generics and Collections
  • Functional Programming
  • Exceptions, Assertions, and Localization
  • Modular Applications
  • Concurrency
  • I/O
  • NIO.2
  • JDBC
  • Security

LET’S FOCUS ON PREPARATION

One of the main problems with passing Java 11 certification is the syllabus. It’s a lot tougher and wider, and the vague syllabus makes the certification level even more difficult. Sometimes knowledge of one topic is required to answer the question on other topics. To overcome this you should thoroughly follow a study guide or course to prepare.

My personal choice is —

Java SE 11 certification Study guide

This is the Java SE 11 certification study guide by Jeanne Boyarsky and Scott Selikoff, two of the best-selling authors when it comes to Java certification guide.

Along with study guides, you can also refer to online courses, they also play a crucial role in acquiring Oracle’s Java Certification. You can refer to the following courses which provide you in-depth knowledge of java and complete module-wise preparation for the exam.

Java SE 11 Developer 1Z0–819 OCP Course — Part 2

You have acquired knowledge and you are confident. Now, it’s time to test it by practicing mock papers. It is by far one of the most important steps in your certification path. The exam consists of questions that might trick you, even if you know the concept you might not be able to answer the question.

I particularly recommend Enthuware 1Z0–819 mock tests, which have more than 1200 unique questions. It has many good features.

  1. 1200+ Questions with detailed explanations.
  2. Questions covering all exam objectives.
  3. Highly Customizable — Standard tests, Section-wise/Objective-wise tests, and Custom tests.
  4. Comparative Scores — See how others are faring on Standard Tests.

All the above-mentioned steps will help only if you prepare your own notes. Preparing your own notes will help you in understanding and remembering the concepts easily. Another benefit of preparing your own notes is that it helps in quick revision. You can finish the revision of all topics required for the exam in 1 or 2 hours if you have your own notes.
